Etymology: L, contra, against + angulus, angle
an angulation by which the working point of a surgical instrument is brought close to the long axis of its shaft. It may involve two, three, or four bends, or angles, in its shank.

contra-angle (kän´tr-ang´gl),
n more than one angle. An instrument having two or more offsetting angles such that the end of the instrument is kept within 3 mm of the axis of the shaft.
