agalactia [ā′gəlak′shə] Etymology: Gk a + gala, not milk the inability of the mother to secrete enough milk to breastfeed a neonate immediately after childbirth. agalactia [ag″ah-lak´she-ah] absence or failure of secretion of milk.
agalactia partial or complete absence of milk flow in the absence of disease of the mammary gland. It may be due to the presence of other disease, to emotional disturbances or to lack of let-down hormones or hormonal stimulation for the development of the mammary glands.
