conjugate /con·ju·gate/ (kon´jdbobr-gāt) 1. paired, or equally coupled; working in unison. 2. a conjugate diameter of the pelvic inlet; used alone usually to denote the true conjugate diameter; see pelvic diameter, under diameter. 3. the product of chemical conjugation.
conjugate [kon′jəgit] Etymology: L, con + jungere, to yoke together (in pelvimetry) the measurement of the female pelvis to determine whether the presenting part of a fetus can enter the birth canal. See also diagonal conjugate, true conjugate. conjugate (kon´j v 1. to unite. 2. the product of conjugation. conjugate 1. paired, or equally coupled; working in union. 2. to link marker protein such as fluorescein or enzyme to an antibody molecule to detect antigen, as by immunofluorescence or immunoperoxidase staining. 3. a conjugate diameter of the pelvic inlet; used alone usually to denote the true conjugate diameter.
