concanavalin
either of two phytohemagglutinins isolated along with canavalin from the meal of the jack bean (Canavalia ensiformis and other species of Canavalia), which agglutinate the blood of mammals as a result of reaction with polyglucosans.

concanavalin A
binds to sugar residues on cell surfaces and stimulates T lymphocytes to proliferate; has also been shown to inhibit the growth of ascites tumors. Called also Con A.
