of the nature of a colloid.

colloidal bath
a bath containing gelatin, bran, starch or similar substances, to relieve skin irritation and pruritus.
colloidal body
a homogeneous, eosinophilic structure found in the lower epidermis and dermis in systemic or discoid lupus erythematosus and any other skin disease in which there is damage to the basal cells. They are formed from degenerated epidermal basal cells and contain immunoglobulin, complement, fibrin and glycoprotein. Called also Civatte body, hyaline body.
colloidal degeneration
the assumption by the tissues of a gumlike or gelatinous character.
colloidal goiter
see goiter.
colloidal osmotic pressure
largely the osmotic pressure exerted by plasma proteins; see also oncotic pressure.
colloidal solution
used in the management of shock to increase osmotic pressure and volume of plasma. Dextrans and plasma are examples.
