clustering illusion

The mistaken belief that a pattern is present in a random cluster of data. For example, if three out of the four patients with chest pain admitted to a hospital in February had red hair, a naive observer might incorrectly conclude that having red hair increases the likelihood of having a heart attack during the winter.
