Etymology: L, clavus, nail
the dried flower bud of Eugenia caryophyllata. It contains the lactone caryophyllin and a volatile oil used as a dental analgesic, a germicide, and a salve. Clove is also used as a spice and a carminative against nausea, vomiting, and flatulence.
