chronic nephritis Etymology: Gk, chronos, time, nephros, kidney, itis, inflammation a form of kidney inflammation usually secondary to another disease, such as chronic pyelonephritis. In chronic interstitial nephritis the kidney becomes small and granular with thickening of arteries and arterioles and proliferation of interstitial tissue.
