chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS)

state of severe physical and mental lassitude, related neither to excessive exertion nor to any apparent medical condition, although it may follow a viral infection. Defined as persistent fatigue continuing for at least 6 months (but often extending for much longer), accompanied by a specific set of symptoms including muscle and/or joint pains, which may last for up to 24 h after even mild exertion. Also known as myalgic encephalomyelitis (ME).
