chisel,

n an instrument modeled after a carpenter's chisel intended for cutting or cleaving hard tissue. The cutting edge is beveled on one side only; the shank may be straight or angled.

n a chisel-shaped, binangled, paired cutting instrument whose blade meets the shank at an angle greater than 12°.

used to divide the pubis at the pubic symphysis in immature heifers carrying large calves. The chisel point is angled inward toward the center of the blade so that the cutting surface will stay on the bone when it disappears from view.
