Having worked in both med/surg and hospice I have noted that good charge nurses take into account whether the patient is a "walkie/talkie" with a high level of self care versus a "needy" which is closer to full care by the nurse when making assignments. I would like to see charge nurses back on the wards and all staff accountable to them, instead of a patient receiving care based on a particular nurse's own standard. Participants include critical and acute care charge nurses, managers, and clinical and administrative directors. |
