cerebrocostomandibular syndrome

[ser′əbrōkos′tō·mandib′yo̅o̅lər]
Etymology: L, cerebrum, brain + costa, rib + mandibula, mandible
an autosomal-recessive syndrome of severe micrognathia and costovertebral abnormalities, including small bell-shaped thorax, incompletely ossified aberrant rib structure, and abnormal rib attachment to vertebrae. There are also palatal defects, glossoptosis, prenatal and postnatal growth deficiencies, and mental retardation, the last perhaps because of neonatal respiratory distress.
