cercopithecine herpesvirus 1

A virus commonly found in macaques but not in other primates. Humans who handle macaques may be infected by bites or exposure to animal blood or body fluids. Although in macaques the virus causes a herpetic rash, in humans it often produces deadly infections of the brain and meninges.
