ceramide /cer·a·mide/ (ser´ah-mīd) the basic unit of the sphingolipids; it is sphingosine, or a related base, attached to a long chain fatty acyl group. Ceramides are accumulated abnormally in Farber's disease. ceramide trihexoside any of a specific family of glycosphingolipids; due to a deficiency of α-galactosidase A, they accumulate in Fabry's disease.
