cefoperazone sodium [sē′fōper′əzōn] a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic. indications It is prescribed in the treatment of respiratory tract, bone, joint, skin, and female genital tract infections and of bacterial septicemia. contraindications Hypersensitivity to the cephalosporins or known sensitivity to this drug prohibits its use. adverse effects Among the most serious adverse reactions are pruritus, urticaria, transient eosinophilia, neutropenia, and injection site reactions.
