cavernous-carotid fistula

An abnormal connection between the carotid artery in the neck and the cavernous sinus (a venous plexus) within the skull. A vascular fistula can result from trauma to the head and neck. It may deprive the brain of oxygen and nutrients by shunting oxygenated blood to the veins that drain into the superior vena cava.
