carotid-body tumor

a benign round, firm growth that develops at the bifurcation of the common carotid artery. The tumor may cause dizziness, nausea, and vomiting if it impedes the flow of blood and pressure is increased in the vascular system. Surgical excision is the usual treatment in some cases.
