swollen or enlarged face; a purulent periodontitis, halitosis, progressive loss of premolar teeth, mainly of the upper jaw, and emaciation in young cattle grazing new pastures sown in ground of recently cleared forest areas in Brazil. The cause is unknown but Arcanobacterium pyogenes and Bacterioides melaninogenicus have been isolated from periodontal lesions.
