butadiene

A conjugated diene gas released during the production of synthetic rubber and adiponitrile, an intermediate in nylon production. Short-term exposure causes irritation of mucous membranes, blurred vision, fatigue, headache and dizziness. Long-term exposure to 1+ ppm is cardiotoxic, and increases the risk of leukaemia and other cancer.
