Herbal medicine
A bitter, whitish substance obtained from the root of bryony (Bryonia alba, B dioica); it is emetic and cathartic, and may consist of multiple chemicals.

bryonidin, bryonin, bryonol

one of the glycosides in Bryonia dioica and possibly the cause of the plant's purgative effect.
