Seventy subjects, characterized as previously described (13), underwent bronchoscopy, endobronchial biopsy, and bronchial brushings, and provided samples of epithelial cells of greater than 95% purity. 577-586) Pierrou and colleagues report on a study in which they used gene expression profiling to identify genes that are differentially expressed in bronchial epithelial cells obtained by bronchial brushings from well-characterized healthy nonsmoking and smoking subjects, and from current smokers with COPD (8). |
