bromelain /bro·me·lain/ (bro´mĕ-lān) any of several endopeptidases that catalyze the cleavage of specific bonds in proteins. Different forms are derived from the fruit (fruit b.) and stem (stem b.) of the pineapple plant, Ananas comosus. As the concentrate bromelains, it is used as an antiinflammatory agent.

bromelain
[brō′məlān]
any of several enzymes that catalyze cleavage of proteins on the carboxyl side of alanine, glycine, lysine, and tyrosine bonds. Differing forms are derived from the fruit (fruit bromelain) and stem (stem bromelain) of the pineapple plant. The enzyme is administered orally as an antiinflammatory agent (especially to relieve swelling in the nasal and paranasal sinuses) and is also used in immunology to render red cells agglutinable by incomplete antibody.

n a proteolytic enzyme derived from pineapples that is used as an antiinflammatory and an antiedema agent; to aid digestion; to assist in recovery from surgery and athletic injuries; to treat sinusitis, familial amyloidotic polyneuropathy, ulcerative colitis; and to increase the efficacy of antibiotics. Contraindicated for those taking anticoagulant medications, antiplatelet medications, and sedatives. See also pineapple.

They used a vacuum to remove water vapor from meringue and presented a pork loin tenderized with pineapple juice, which contains the protein-splitting enzyme bromelin.
Pineapples contain bromelin, an enzyme that helps promote good digestion.
In the meantime, try a daily joint supplement like glucose amine or bromelin to ease those aches and pains.
