break test

break test,
a test of a person's muscle strength by application of resistance after the person has reached the end of a range of motion. Resistance is applied gradually in a direction opposite to the line of pull of the muscle or muscle group being tested. The resistance is released immediately if there is any sign of pain or discomfort.

There are four disciplines to Taekwondo and these include Patterns, Sparring, Self Defence and Break test and from the discipline titles alone, it is easy to see just how durable a taekwondo uniform would need to be.
The break test requires that the examiner have additional skills, such as the ability to move the limb at a constant velocity while the person being tested is asked to achieve a maximum contraction.
A break test is defined as the testers providing sufficient resistance to overcome the subject's maximal effort within one second.
