a group of symptoms resulting from impaired function of the brain. It may be acute and reversible, or chronic and irreversible. An organic mental disorder is a specific organic mental syndrome in which the cause is known or presumed. An organic mental syndrome is a temporary or permanent brain dysfunction of any cause.
