a blood or urine test that assists in the evaluation of adrenal activity. Adrenal hyperfunction may indicate Cushing's disease, adrenal adenoma or carcinoma, ectopic ACTH-producing tumors, or hyperthyroidism, while hypofunction may indicate congenital adrenal hyperplasia, Addison's disease, hypopituitarism, hypothyroidism, or liver disease.
