blocked tear duct

A blocked nasolacrimal duct which normally carries tears from the eyes to the nose. Blocked tear ducts occur in up to 20% of infants at birth, which usually resolves spontaneously within the first year of life. A blocked tear duct in an adult is more ominous, and is caused by infection, inflammation, an injury or a tumour.
