bisferiens pulse
Cardiology A double-beat pulse palpated over the carotid or brachial arteries, which is characteristic of obstructive cardiomyopathy and aortic regurgitation; the ascending limb–percussion wave initially arises rapidly
and forcefully, producing a systolic pulse peak, followed by a dip or trough, and a second slower and broader positive–tidal wave; in some Pts, the pulse is intermittent, and may be evoked by mechanical–Valsalva or
pharmacologic–nitroglycerin or catecholamines– maneuvers. Cf Spike-and-dome. Want to thank TFD for its existence? Tell a friend about us, add a link to this page, add the site to iGoogle, or visit the webmaster's page for free fun content. |
