1. that part of the universe in which living organisms are known to exist, comprising the atmosphere, hydrosphere and lithosphere.
2. the sphere of action between an organism and its environment.

The World Wildlife Fund site has information about the ecological riches and challenges of 42 biospheres.
Rather than erecting protected biospheres that favor one type of software over another, governments and their citizens would be better served if the ecosystem naturally selects the best, most cost effective solutions for the task at hand.
