bile acid breath test

    0.01 sec.
bile acid breath test,
a breath test for overgrowth of bacteria in the intestine: the patient is given a dose of a conjugated bile acid labeled with carbon 14, and the amount of radioactively labeled carbon dioxide in the breath is measured at hourly intervals. Excessive labeled carbon dioxide in the breath indicates excessive bacteria in the intestine breaking down the bile acids.
