an Asian Indian hallucinogenic, composed of dried leaves and the young stems of uncultivated Cannabis sativa. It is usually ingested as a boiled mixture with milk, sugar, or water. It produces euphoria. It also may be smoked or chewed. Also spelled bang. See also cannabis.

An astringent narcotic made from the dried leaves and seed capsules of wild hemp (Cannabis indica), and chewed or smoked in India as a cheap intoxicant, sleeping aid and appetite stimulant. Commonly available during holy days, it is consumed most during the Holi festival. It is also used as an herbal medicine for fever, dysentery, sunstroke, excess phlegm, slow digestion, loss of appetite, speech defects and lethargy.
