beta testing

The testing of a vendor’s product—a device, equipment, hardware or software—by applications-knowledgeable users who are familiar with the product’s uses or potential uses. BT is usually performed on-site under the same working conditions for which it was designed, in order to identify and resolve potential problems associated with its use. BT provides both a different perspective and a real-world example of the product’s performance under working conditions, as it will be put through various unanticipated uses and applications. BT has the advantage to an end-user of being at the forefront of a technology, and allows the user to add specific features in the marketed version of the product.
