A benign or malignant tumor derived from epithelium.

Etymology: Gk, epi + thele + oma, tumor
a neoplasm derived from the epithelium.

epithelioma [ep″ĭ-the″le-o´mah]
1. a neoplasm of epithelial origin, ranging from benign (adenoma and papilloma) to malignant (carcinoma).
2. the term is sometimes used loosely and incorrectly as a synonym for carcinoma. adj., adj epithelio´matous.

intracutaneous cornifying epithelioma
a benign skin tumor of dogs that consists of a keratin-filled cyst, usually opening to the surface of the skin through a pore. Occasionally, and particularly in some breeds, tumors may be multiple or recurring.

sebaceous epithelioma
a benign tumor of sebaceous glands that is histologically similar to basal cell tumor.

epithelioma
A tumour of epithelial cells, ranging from benign to malignant (e.g. carcinoma). Example: epithelioma of the conjunctival epithelium that begins near the limbus and spreads to the fornices and cornea. Treatment usually consists of excision, cryotherapy or both, or even enucleation if the tumour is very advanced.
