beard 1. in goats and dogs, beards are conventional collections of chin hairs; seen only in certain dog breeds such as Afghan hounds and Bearded collies. 2. in turkeys, beards are an agglomeration of modified feathers, or hair/feathers, consisting of individual filaments that arise from individual beard papillae.
