It was neocons who banged the drum for Wilsonian intervention in the 1990s while the hard right drifted off into a kind of semi-isolationism, attacking Clinton for his interventions in Somalia, Bosnia, and elsewhere. George Will banged the drum on ABC's This Week, and Richard Cohen, putative liberal, used his column in The Washington Post to prod the Bush Administration on to Baghdad. I have banged the drum for smaller stocks in this column from time to time since May 1998. |
