Balantidium /Bal·an·tid·i·um/ (bal″an-tid´e-um) a genus of ciliated protozoa, including many species found in the intestine in vertebrates and invertebrates, including B. co´li, a common parasite of swine, rarely in humans, in whom it may cause dysentery.
