Balanitis xerotica obliterans (BXO) A chronic, progressive, hardening skin inflammation of the penis. Mentioned in: Phimosis balanitis xerotica obliterans [zirot′ikə oblit′ərans] Etymology: Gk, balanos + itis + xeros, dry, tokos, labor; L, obliterare, to efface a chronic skin disease (lichen sclerosis et atrophicus) of the glans penis, characterized by a white indurated area surrounding the meatus, that may result in urethral stenosis.
