mud fever

 
a type of leptospirosis occurring in the summer and autumn in Germany and Russia, caused by Leptospira interrogans; it is transmitted to humans by the field mouse Microtus arvalis and affects mainly workers in swamps or flooded fields. Called also autumn fever.
