A condition, usually occurring in women, in which bruising occurs easily, with the resulting ecchymoses tending to enlarge and involve adjacent tissues, causing pain in the affected parts; it may be a form of autosensitization or may be due to psychogenic causes. Also called autoerythrocyte sensitization, Gardner-Diamond syndrome, psychogenic purpura.
