Handigodu syndromeA rare (1000 cases reported) osteoarthropathy (spondyloepimetaphyseal dysplasi(1)) affecting knees and hips of all age groups, named Handigodu for the village in Karnataka’s Malnad region of India, where it was first identified.
Uncertain, consanguinity, consumption of dead crabs, low protein intake and environmental toxins have been blamed.
Severe knee and hip joint pain; severe forms cause death by age 25.
