apical odontoid ligament

[ōdon′toid]
a ligament connecting the axis to the occipital bone. It extends from the odontoid process of the axis (dens) to the anterior margin of the foramen magnum and lies between the two alar ligaments, blending with the anterior atlantooccipital membrane.

apical ligament of dens

A narrow band of fibrous tissue extending from the apex of the dens to the anterior margin of the foramen magnum between the alar ligaments, merging with the deep anterior atlanto-occipital membrane and superior crus of the transverse ligament of the atlas.
