anterior atlantoaxial ligament

[atlan′tō·ak′sē·əl]
one of five ligaments connecting the atlas to the axis. It is fixed to the inferior border of the anterior arch of the atlas and to the ventral surface of the body of the axis. Compare posterior atlantoaxial ligament.

anterior atlantoaxial ligament

An obsolete term that formerly dignified a slip of fibrous (“ligamentous”) tissue located between the anterior arch of the atlas and the anterior face of the axis that reinforces the lateral atlantoaxial joint capsule.
