ansa cervicalis

ansa /an·sa/ (an´sah) pl. an´sae   [L.] a looplike structure.
ansa cervica´lis  a nerve loop in the neck that supplies the infrahyoid muscles.
ansa lenticula´ris  a small nerve fiber tract arising in the globus pallidus and joining the anterior part of the ventral thalamic nucleus.
ansa nephro´ni  loop of Henle.
an´sae nervo´rum spina´lium  loops of nerve fibers joining the ventral roots of the spinal nerves.
ansa peduncula´ris  peduncular loop; a complex grouping of nerve fibers connecting the amygdaloid nucleus, piriform area, and anterior hypothalamus, and various thalamic nuclei.
ansa subcla´via , ansa of Vieussens the subclavian loop; nerve filaments passing around the subclavian artery to form a loop connecting the middle and inferior cervical ganglia.
ansa vitelli´na  an embryonic vein from the yolk sac to the umbilical vein.

ansa cervicalis,
one of three loops of nerves in the cervical plexus, branches of which innervate the infrahyoid muscles. Also called ansa hypoglossi.

a loop between the musculocutaneous nerve and the median nerve.
ansa cardiaca

ansa proximalis
a loop of the colon of ruminants that precedes the spiral colon.

the s-shaped curve of the proximal duodenum as it passes over the visceral surface of the liver of the horse, ruminants and pig.
ansa spiralis
the double loop of colon made up of centripetal and centrifugal coils and a central flexure that run in a vertical plane in ruminants and in a snail-like coil in pigs.
ansa subclavia
the loop made by the cervical sympathetic trunk as it divides to pass on either side of the subclavian artery at the thoracic inlet.
