anisotropic /an·iso·tro·pic/ (-tro´pik) 1. having unlike properties in different directions. 2. doubly refracting, or having a double polarizing power.
anisotropic 1. having unlike properties in different directions. 2. doubly refracting, or having a double polarizing power.
anisotropic State of an optical medium in which the optical properties are not the same in all directions, due to the fact that the refractive index is not the same for all directions. An incident ray will be divided, within a uniaxial anisotropic medium, into two refracted rays; an ordinary ray which obeys Snell's law and an extraordinary ray which follows a different law. Most crystals are anisotropic. See birefringence; dichroism; isotropic. How to thank TFD for its existence? Abstract: An anisotropic conductive elastomer (ACE)-based electrical connector that interconnects two or more electrical circuit elements. Ixef 2060 contains 55% glass and features anisotropic shrinkage that is at least 50% lower than competitive low-warp materials. Examples of anisotropic properties are that of an 8-in. |
