an adverse reaction to an excessive intake of a methylxanthine drug such as caffeine or theophylline. The patient appears alternately restless, excited, and lethargic. Symptoms may include nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, abdominal pain, GI bleeding, headache, tinnitus, thirst, delirium, seizures, tachycardia, cardiac arrhythmias, and blood pressure changes.
