the capacity to alkalinize, or confer alkalinity.

alkalinizing agent
sodium bicarbonate, potassium citrate, calcium carbonate or calcium acetate may be added to food in the management of acidosis associated with renal failure.
alkalinizing solution
one used in fluid therapy of acidosis to raise blood pH, e.g. sodium bicarbonate or sodium lactate.
