a test for hemoglobin F (Hb F), based on the fact that hemoglobins, with the exception of Hb F, are denatured by alkali to alkaline hematin; sensitive to 2% or more Hb F.

alkali denaturation test

A quantitative test for hemoglobin F (fetal hemoglobin, HbF). The test uses the spectrophotometric absorbance of a mixture of saline-diluted and alkali-diluted blood.
