alcoholic-nutritional cerebellar degeneration,
a sudden, severe incoordination in the lower extremities characteristic of poorly nourished alcoholics. The patient walks, if at all, with an ataxic or a wide-based gait. Cerebellar tumors, multiple sclerosis, and other neurologic disorders are characterized by similar motor impairments. Treatment consists of improved nutrition, abstinence from alcohol, and physical therapy. See also alcoholism.
