It was not that I
had never studied black women writers before: my teachers at the
University of the West Indies in Jamaica--David Williams, Carolyn
Cooper, Evelyn O'Callaghan, Maureen Warner-Lewis, Mervyn Morris and
a Fulbright Scholar named Gloria Akasha Hull--had introduced me to Zora
Neale Hurston, Gwendolyn Brooks, Ama Ata Aidoo, Louise Bennett, Toni
Morrison and Erna Brodber, in courses on African American Literature,
Caribbean Literature, and African Literature. With gradual liberation, the soul
ascends to various realms: from the solar sphere (the universe) to the
lunar sphere (abode of the gods); the electric sphere (a state where
cosmic prana and akasha are almost indistinguishable); brahmaloka, the
state of primal causal energy -- Mahat (the cosmic mind) or Ishvara
(Creator); then final liberation: dissolution into the Absolute. Eaturna's menu is the result of more than two decades of
nutritional research and food development experience by the
company's co-founding chefs Beth Ginsberg and Akasha Richmond. |
