ad·vanced life support (d-vnst)
n.
Emergency medical care for sustaining life, including defibrillation, airway management, and drugs and medications.

advanced life support (ALS),
a higher level of emergency medical care, usually provided by EMT-intermediates or paramedics. Typically ALS includes invasive techniques such as IV therapy, intubation, and/or drug administration.

To date, four people have completed the program, with thirteen people Advanced Life Support (ALS) trained, and eight further near completion.
Army aircrews deploying in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom have been equipped with this new-generation aircrew ensemble that provides advanced life support, ballistic protection, and chemical-biological protection in a system of mission-configured modules.
However, in order for the patient to have the best chance of surviving an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest, CPR and early defibrillation must be provided within the first four minutes of the cardiac arrest, followed by advanced life support (ALS) within the first eight minutes of the arrest.
