adipose [ad′ipōs] tissue composed of fat-containing cells arranged in lobules. See also fat. adipose fatty. brown adipose tissue a connective tissue that contains multilocular fat cells whose color results from cytochrome pigments and a high density of mitochondria; it functions primarily in heat production and control of body weight.
